The Calgary United Scottish Games Association, CUSGA, is comprised of over 20 dedicated volunteer members who meet monthly to organize the Calgary Highland Games. On the day of the games, the number of volunteers swells to around 200, we cannot run the games without the help of our volunteers!

The origin of the Highland Games probably lies in contests organized by Malcolm III (1059-1093) at Braemar to select the most effective warriors. The Calgary Highland Games were first held on August 9th, 1913 in Victoria Park, and hosted by the St. Andrew Caledonian Society. Through the years, many people have dedicated their time, labour and talents to the Calgary United Scottish Games Association in promoting, organizing and staging this annual event. It is through events such as the Highland Games, that we are able to keep alive the heritage and traditions of Scotland for future generations.

CUSGA meetings are held every third Wednesday of the month, at the Mewata Armory (801 11th St SW, Calgary). Please contact us in advance if you would like to attend so we can let you in, as the doors have a security code.

CUSGA’s goals and purposes are:
-To bring together people of Scottish descent
- Practicing and preserving Scottish traditions
- Educating the public about Scottish traditions and heritage
- Promoting goodwill among people of Scottish heritage and the public

The objectives of CUSGA are to create, stimulate and sustain an interest in Scottish history, traditions, literature and culture, including music, dancing, athletics, and to promote these goals to the public through the Highland Games.

The business of CUSGA is conducted by an elected Board of Directors consisting of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.

Membership is open to any person, with or without Scottish ancestry, who expresses a genuine interest in the aims and objectives of CUSGA. Membership application forms may be obtained from the Secretary. If you are interested in becoming involved with the Calgary United Scottish Games Association, please contact our president on the Contact page.
